Sinitic partners with AIMS to empower Africa’s brightest machine learning graduates
September 14, 2019
Sinitic is proud to announce an industrial partnership with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) to provide employment opportunities to female and youth graduates at the forefront of natural language processing (NLP) and deep-learning to Africa’s brightest engineering talent. The successful, pan-African candidates will apply their expertise from AIMS’s machine learning and big data programs in Kigali and Dakar respectively.
“The industrial partnership with AIMS is an incredibly natural fit,” said Sinitic CEO Curtis Matlock. “As part of our expansion into sub-Saharan emerging markets, Sinitic is adapting its NLP engine into languages such as Kinyarwanda and Swahili, and mixed-languages like Sheng. The graduates will help solve several unique algorithmic problems, and this exposure to the latest deep-learning techniques will make this talent base even more globally competitive."
Youssef Travaly, the VP of Science Innovation and Institutional Partnerships, said, “This partnership is a unique opportunity for our students to apply and extend their theoretical knowledge in Big Data and Machine Learning to the field of natural language processing as it applies to the African context.”
The most immediate enterprise application will be a financial complaints automation system for multiple regulatory authorities across the continent, which recently picked up the AI prize at the Central Banking 2019 Fintech and Regtech Awards for its first-instance at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Sinitic, the market-leader in AI Customer Experience (AICX) solutions for multilingual contact centers, serves emerging markets and customer segments with a vertically-integrated customer experience product suite and proprietary natural language processing (NLP) engine for non-English languages. Sinitic's deep-learning technology and domain expertise increase automation rates and maximize customer lifetime value.
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for post-graduate training, research and public engagement in mathematical sciences. AIMS enable Africa’s brightest students to become innovators that propel scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency.
